Mor Thiem: Master Drummer
He’s a griot from Senegal, internationally known for his phenomenal energy and rhythmic abilities.
We met him in 1990, in East Saint Louis, Missouri while attending a Katherine Dunham workshop. Mor Thiem was one of about 30 percussionist who attended and participated in this annual event..along with many dancers and choreographers from around the country and abroad.
Years later, we met again at the Smithsonian Institution where he was performing with noted jazz pianist, Don Pullen’s African Brazilian Connection. I saw the group perform three more times before Don suddenly died. Their performances were electrifying!!!
