Mor Thiem: Master Drummer |

He is a griot from Senegal, internationally
known for his phenomenal energy and rhythmic abilities.
I first met him in 1990, in East Saint Louis, Missouri while attending a Katherine Dunham workshop.
Mor Thiem was one of about 30 percussionist who attended and participated in this annual event
along with many dancers and choreographers from around the country and abroad. Years later,
I saw him in performance at the Smithsonian Institution while touring with noted jazz pianist, Don Pullen's
African Brazilian Connection. I had the fortune to see the group perform three more times before Don suddenly died.
